A lot of people think that being a stay at home mom is the easiest job in the world. If I say something like “ I don’t have time” they look at me with a blank expression and wonder what I do all day. Well let me tell you, first of being a stay at home mom in itself is an extremely important job. And it is not an easy job at that. I don't just do one thing. I do all the things. And yes even take out the thrash and occasionally some handy work like fix a loose screw and what not. I wouldn't say one mothers job is easier than your next mom I just think some moms have learned to manage the whole mom thing a little better. For me the hardest part has been to just ‘let go’ and embrace the mess. After all, the kids are making memories, right? I am sure you all have heard the quote “ excuse the mess, the kids are making memories” well as much as I have tried to embrace that and let my house go to shiz so that we can enjoy more time together with the kids, I just can't! Not that a messy house is a bad thing. For me it's more of an OCD thing. Like I have mentioned before, we have a cat and a dog that shed quite a bit. And the thought of hair on my floor and couches is enough to make me get an anxiety attack. Another thing that drives me insane is the amount of dishes in the sink. Thank the lord for whoever invented the dishwasher.
So if you are still reading along and are wondering how I seem to get everything done, all while being a mom and maintaining my relationships around me, wonder no more. Most importantly is my relationship with Spencer. Every Sunday I get my planner out and start making my list, and the first thing that gets planned out is ‘us’ time. We pick a day out of the week that works for us (mostly for him since he works evenings) that we can either have lunch together or have a movie night at home. Next is social gatherings with friends like a gno or other networking events. If I'm not doing lunch with Spencer, my errands usually go in between 1-3 which is when Addi is in school. If I don't have any errands or lunches planned. I will use that time to tidy something up at home. Anything for work, like blogging usually starts around 8 or 9 at night when both girls are sleeping. Usually after I have loaded the dishwasher, cleaned the counters, and the floors. Not only is cleaning at night easier and faster for me but it helps me to start unwinding for the night. With a glass of wine and usually a TV show I have recorded.
Since we don't have family close by to watch the girls for us, Spencer and I will alternate going out with friends. If I'm at home watching them he goes out, and vise versa. Managing my time can be hard but if you commit to it and do something that works for you, like using a planner, it can be really easy and beneficial. I plan everything down to the hour. And I write everything down. Sometimes my schedule can seem overwhelming and if it starts to feel like that I will start prioritizing. If it's too much I simply will just not do it. I know that my family is most important and time with them is always first. I also understand that life happens. I could have something planned, but life doesn't always go as planned. So I have learned that everything happens for a reason and I have gotten better at not getting frustrated of the things I can't control. I do go to sleep late because I like to get things done sooner rather than later. Most of the blog campaigns I work with have deadlines and I like to start them as soon as I can. I used to be a procrastinator and that didn’t work out too well at all.
My usual Monday-Friday
7:30-8 am - usual time the girls wake up. So I get up and start breakfast.
8-8:30-. Eat and get ready for the gym. Spencer gets back from the gym.
9:30-10:30- my gym MWF
11:00- eat a snack at home and get Addi ready for school
12:30- school drop off
1:00-3:00- errands, lunch, or whatever I have planned
3:30- school pick up
4:00- we hang out at home
6:00- Start Dinner
9-12 Blog work, clean-up, hang out with Spencer, or our nights out.
Saturday’s we like to do stuff as a family and take the girls out somewhere
Sunday is the day we usually try to rest and hang out at home.
I constantly feel like my schedule is always full. And this doesn’t include spending time on social media, and the other things I do for my work/blog. Addi starts soccer next week and I can’t imagine yet how that is going to go. I don’t know how mothers of three or more do it. I know I couldn’t do it with out Spencer, that’s for sure! One last thing I like to add is that, what works for me doesn’t always work for others. So find what works best for you. And don’t forget to check out how these other mazing ladies manage their time.
