Happy Five Months!!

Every month, When it comes time to write Emerson's monthly post, I get teary eyed! Another month has gone by and a few more clothes that she has outgrown. We've gone through tons of diapers. Took a bunch of baths. Hundreds of smiles. Still, I cant believe how much she is growing.

5 Month Stats

Got her ears pierced
Thumb sucker
Started eating puréed homemade baby food
Obsessed with her feet
Puts everything in mouth.

  1. Love reading your blog and adventures of your family. Think you were a smart mommy getting her ears pierced now when mommy can care for them, plus she looks so darn cute with little earrings. We did our daughter at six months and everyone loved how cute she looked with little earrings. I wanted then done soon after birth, but everyone thought I was crazy wanting them done from birth. However, my Madrina pierced my ears when I was days old and loved seeing all my baby picture wearing cute little gold studs. Your daughter is soO adorable with those cute little earrings. Promise in her pictures, she is saying "thank you" for the "gift of pierced ears." You were wise doing them now when she can't remember having it done. I know her sweet mommy will be taking good care of her adorable little newly pierced ears so she can grow up pretty like her mom.

Some say to wait till their older, however, When I took Sandi to her six month check, our ped encouraged me saying this was a good age to do them. In fact, she had so many moms ask her about it, she gave me a sheet with " Tips and Care for moms having their daughter's ears pierced." Would be happy to share with any moms who want their little girls to look pretty as a princess.

    1. Hi Amy. Thank you for stopping by! Even at five months, I thought I waited a little too long. I should have done her piercing at two months! My mom was the same. She got hers pierced when she was days old. I bet your daughter looks adorable with her little earrings on! and I agree, piercing them now, while I can care for them and she won't remember is better.
      Have a great day! XO

  2. Thanks for the nice comments. Admittedly, earlier is always better for baby girls, however, when I was older, my Madrina told me earrings in little girls signify they are loved by their family and not just gender identification. We lived in Costa Rica for a short while and my housekeeper told me it is considered a sign of love and devotion to a baby girl to have babies and ALL little girls ears pierced before one year old. Often little gold balls or red stones are inserted soon after the piercing to show the baby girl is loved in a male dominated culture. These often come from godparents or friends. Some moms of lesser means will ofter pierce their daughters with red thread until they can same enough money for gold earrings.

I loved having earrings as a child and all my friend were envious of mine. Over time, one by one, all had it done, but told me it hurt and cried. Believe we are both good mothers for doing it at 5-6 months and my oldest, age 6, has already thanked me for doing it as an infant.

Drop me an e-mail and would love to exchange a picuture. Babies look like little cherubs with cute little earrings.
