Christmas Traditions

I'm sure all of you have some sort of family holiday traditions. I think traditions are the best to have specially with kids. I don't remember having any traditions for the holidays while growing up. So it is so important to Spencer and I to start our own with our children. Our Christmas starts the day after thanksgiving. We relax on Friday and start taking out all of our Christmas decorations. We make some hot cocoa and we'll maybe listen to a few Christmas songs while decorating, but we don't get too carried away. We also will end our night with a Christmas movie that's playing on the TV and some left over pie! One of my favorite traditions I want to share today is our ornament tradition. Every year we buy or make a new ornament that reflects or reminds us of that year. This year Addi picked out Elsa, which goes perfect because her 4th birthday party this year was frozen themed. Rainbow dash, because she is currently obsessed with any thing My Little Pony. Spencer picked out "Kylo Ren" from the new Star Wars movie coming out this December. Our DIY was our ultrasound picture, finding out we were expecting of course! As for me, I got this simple "R" in this white and gold large ornament found here

Our second and newest tradition is this "Santa key" that's Spencer's parents got for Addi. We have a fire place in our house but they told Addi that when Santa gets here that night he's going to want to come in and leave the presents by the tree. So we don't have to leave our front door unlocked, we just leave him this special key so he can come in. I think it's such a cute idea and Addi is all over it.

Our last and also new tradition it the infamous elf on the shelf. I don't even know how long this has been around for but apparently it's a big deal! At first I thought it was a little creepy, the idea to have an elf spy on you?! But after I saw all the ideas you can have your elf do, I started to become more interested in it. Find some awesome ideas here. Now that Addi is older and understands more I figured it was a good idea to sort of "bribe" her, ha ha. I don't think I will be moving our elf around too much. I think he will quietly sit in our living room and "watch" *still sounds weird when I say that*

If you didn't know about elf on the shelf. You can find more here

Let us know some awesome holiday traditions you and your family have. I would love some more ideas! And Happy December

  4. I'm going to have to "borrow" the Santa key tradition for my niece and nephew! Their mom doesn't have a fireplace, so this works perfectly. Thanks!

    1. It is such a great idea. Most little ones are "concerned" about how Santa will come in to leave the presents!! Happy Holidays XO
